This probably won't surprise many people.
Surprise!
Not that this will come as a big surprise to the many folks who fought against Blanche Lincoln in 2010 and supported Bill Halter in the Democratic primary. We knew she was the type of democrat that made having the majority a short-lived dream. We knew she was owned by Walmart but now we've come to find out that she has sold her soul to the next highest bidder.
Earlier this year Blanche Lincoln started a K Street lobbying firm. Well this week she secured her first big time client; Monsanto. We also shouldn't be surprised to learn that the former Walmart Senator would take this business as Walmart is know one of, if not the biggest purchaser of the Monsanto’s GMO corn. Unfortunately, we’ll hear that supporting Monsanto is now a bipartisan effort. We’ll know better but for the few media outlets that cover it won’t.
Now, we shouldn't be the purists that the tea party has become but surely we shouldn't just settle for any candidate that puts a ‘D’ next to their name. We knew in our hearts when we fought against her what she really stood for. We weren't asking for purity. No, we were asking for a Senator who stood for the people for whom they represent. Not their biggest campaign donors.
The point of my diary? To point out that we fought the good fight and ultimately in the end removed from the Senate Democratic caucus a headache for future fights. Can we really believe and trust that she’d have truly been on our side during this debate?
