Welcome to the tenth installment of What's On Your E-Reader?
What exactly is What's On Your E-Reader? This is my own little thing that I am going to be getting out every Sunday at 2pm EST. Within this post I'll list a few of the books that are currently on my TBR list on my Kindle. Some are freebies (or were when I bought them), and others I paid for with gift cards, or had a few spare bucks to spend on a book.
All of them, I fully intend on getting to, at some point (and taking a massive chisel to my to-read list and hopefully hack it down to under 1000, again).
As usual, there are more books on my kindle than I can get to probably in a year (considering I've got stuff that I actually have to do like work, etc). Beyond that, this week's books are mainly because they sounded cool (or I had cover lust...you read books, you know what this is...).
Bone Orchard by Doug Johnson
Bone Orchard by
Doug Johnson caught my attention by the cover. I love the horror and the macabre, and this is one that caught my attention. I might get to this one sooner or later given that it is October and reading horror novels is one of my favorite things to read this month.
Lazarus Walker, charismatic former frontman of the hard-rocking heavy metal band, Black Ryders, wants nothing more than to be left alone. Having traded fame for solitude, he spends his days tending the gardens at his isolated English manor, the link to his former life of debauchery all but severed. Or so he thought.
When a sexy young fan shows up at his doorstep, Lazarus discovers that walking away might be easy, but leaving no trace to follow is hard. What begins as the mild annoyance of an unwelcome guest, quickly spirals into a nightmare, because Kitty Van Winkle is no groupie, but a vengeful psychotic hell-bent on destroying Lazarus and unearthing his darkest secrets at any cost.
Everyone, it seems, still wants a piece of Lazarus Walker.
Cinderella is Evil by Jamie Campbell
Cinderella is Evil by
Jamie Campbell caught my attention because re-tellings of faerie tales is one of my favorite things - especially when it is spun from the side of those who are usually played off as "evil" in the stories. In this case, the story is told completely from the point of view of Anna, one of the 'wicked' stepsisters to Cinderella.
History is told from one person’s perspective. Sometimes they don’t get it right.
Ugly Stepsister Anna has wrongly been accused of being mean and evil. Now it is time she got the opportunity to tell her side of the story.
With Cinderella so perfect and wonderful, it is no wonder Anna feels ugly in comparison. Dealing with bullies, a grumpy mother and the death of her step-father, Anna is at her wits end.
When the Prince’s ball approaches, Anna is told she must find a husband to save the family fortune. Attending with her sisters, the sulky Prince Charming only has eyes for Cinderella.
The Ugly-Step Sister Strikes Back by Sariah Wilson
The Ugly Step-Sister Strikes Back by
Sariah Wilson caught my attention for the same reason
Cinderella is Evil did. I mean, what if Cinderella was told from the perspective of the stepsister? This one is also given a modern twist to it. In the contemporary world rather than a world of magic and fairy tales.
Everyone knows how all those fairy tales go. The princess gets beautiful, nabs her prince, falls instantly in love, lives happily ever after and leaves her evil stepsisters in the dust.
But what happens when you’re the ugly stepsister and your obnoxiously perfect—read pretty, smart, and, worst of all, sickeningly nice—stepsister is dating the charming, tall, devastatingly handsome guy you’ve had a thing for since you were nine years old?
Akhet by H.L. Reasby
Akhet by
H.L. Reasby caught my attention because I adore Egyptian Mythology, and this story is one of those that I'm going to give a chance to. It looks interesting and ultimately will be making its way to my read pile soon enough.
It is a season of waning and little is certain. Akhet, The Inundation. The world is changing, Gods of old stir, and their agents work behind the scenes to fulfill their masters' commands. Who will have the courage to stand for The Light when darkness rises to swallow the world?
Doctor Nicole Salem is a beautiful and brilliant Egyptologist who is working on a dig outside Luxor, Egypt when she is confronted by her own destiny. She is plunged into a world of divided loyalties, intrigue, and treachery that will destroy her and everything she knows if she isn't strong enough. Nicole must learn how to survive in a war between elder powers that claim her life and soul as their own, and earn the title of Sekhmet's Light.
