Chicago actually has a contested primary coming up for a local legislative seat, the state representative from the 40th District – It’s very exciting. We don't see contested primaries often in this city.
Northside Democracy for America will hear from candidates Mel Ferrand, Aaron Goldstein, Mark Pasieka, and Nancy Schiavone at our monthly meeting. We’ve invited current State Representative Jaime Andrade Jr. to attend as well, but he is not confirmed. Rep. Andrade was appointed to the seat after former Rep. Deb Mell was appointed to replace her father as alderman in the 33rd Ward.
The meeting is on Tuesday, October 8, at 7 pm (6 pm for dinner/social hour/claiming the best seats) at the Lincoln Restaurant, 4008 N. Lincoln Ave (2 blocks from the Irving Park Brown Line stop, free parking in rear off of Irving Park). It's free and open to the public -- so feel free to drop by.
We’ll also vote on whether to endorse our speakers from last month: congressional candidates Dennis Anderson (IL 14) and Rob Zerban (WI 01), and state representative candidate Will Guzzardi (39th District). Also, at the last meeting, we postponed the vote on candidate Rory Hoskins, so we will also vote on endorsement. If you are a voting member and are unable to attend the meeting, please send me your proxy votes before 5 pm on Tuesday before the meeting.
And finally – our annual “Small Change for Big Change” fundraiser is on Monday, October 14, at the Filamont Theater, 4041 N. Milwaukee, from 6-8 pm. You can buy your tickets (or donate if you feel so moved) in advance at our Act Blue page: https://secure.actblue.com/...
Feel free to donate even if you can’t attend (every dollar helps tremendously) – though we’d love to see you there. Our headliner for the benefit will be Gov. Pat Quinn.
Hope to see you twice this month – both at our monthly meeting and at Small Change for Big Change!
