Texas appears to be actively campaigning to be declared
America's Worst State.
On Saturday, nearly 40 armed men, women, and children waited outside a Dallas, Texas area restaurant to protest a membership meeting for the state chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a gun safety advocacy group formed in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
According to a spokeswoman for Moms Demand Action (MDA), the moms were inside the Blue Mesa Grill when members of Open Carry Texas (OCT) — an open carry advocacy group — “pull[ed] up in the parking lot and start[ed] getting guns out of their trunks.” The group then waited in the parking lot for the four MDA members to come out.
An accompanying
picture appears to show at least one of the members kneeling in something resembling a firing position. The standoff lasted about two hours before the armed group gave up and—and this is true—moved to "a nearby Hooters."
Blast from the Past. At Daily Kos on this date in 2012—Elizabeth Warren responds to Karl Rove, stands by Occupy Wall Street:
In an interview with a local television station this morning, Elizabeth Warren responded to the new attack ads Karl Rove is running against her:
Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren Thursday had no problems being linked to the Occupy Wall Street movement and stands by her statement that she "created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do."
Some direct quotes from Warren in the interview, which will air in full on Sunday:
"Occupy Wall Street is an independent movement, organic, moving in its own direction. And that's how it should be. It's its own voice.
What I'm doing is what I've been doing for a long time, and that is protesting the activities on Wall Street, trying to hold those guys accountable, and now trying to take that fight to the United States Senate"
