A perfect name after cuts being proposed regarding veterans and troops !

I clicked on to Military. com and the first thing I see is Hagel wanting to cut Veteran benefits and Troop pay. That bites and he has just sent a trial baloon with fail all over it with the coming 2014 election. Cutting benefits and troop pay is not what will defund the DOD. Getting out of the making war and continuing war would be a real cut that would be welcomed.
This will just hurt the people who have already sacraficed so much.
This excerpt:
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warned Tuesday that troops and their families will be asked to sacrifice on pay and benefits to preserve readiness in an era of tighter budgets.
Hagel listed politically-charged changes to compensation and personnel policy as one of his top six priorities in reforming the military following the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as the department gears up to meet new challenges.
"This may be the most difficult" to achieve among his six priorities, Hagel said of proposals to trim pay increases, overhaul TRICARE and review retirement benefits while adapting to cuts in personnel

That dog just won't hunt and this administration had best reign in all of this talk about cuts to veterans, troops, compensation and the third rail of social security. How about a really novel idea of raising taxes on all of the chickenhawks who have squandered their millions offshore? How about paying for injuries and the sacrafice of those who have fought and died or have become disabled and many who are currently living on food stamps. Cuts? Using the excuse of needing to cut because of the invasion of Iraq?
Why don't we start cuts in the DOD that won't hurt our troops?
Without serious attempts to achieve significant savings in this area, which consumes roughly half of the DoD budget and is increasing every year, we risk becoming an unbalanced force," Hagel said.
The alternative was to have a military that is "well-compensated, but poorly trained and equipped, with limited readiness and capability," Hagel said in a keynote address to a Global Security Forum 2013 sponsored by the Center for Strategic and International Studies
How about backing off of all those contracts for building bigger and better weapons to kill more efficiently? How about ending these wars and stop with the drones?
I would say we have a big uphill climb for any kind of good elections results with this kind of talk and especially more overwhelmed military families and veteran disabilities.
Let me get this straight. Chuck Hagel and the former Secretary Gates think that to have a big bad fighting machine sitting on ready, we need to cut troops and veterans compensation and retirements. Boy is that a real incintive to go into the miitary. Are you kidding Sec. Hagel? The best for a good defense is to keep the promises made to those who have worn the uniform.
This austerity thing is not working and again I blame Bush for these invasions but we don't have to keep this talk up. Nobody really cares about a balanced budget. They do care about a new leg or compensation for the loss of the one laying somewhere in a far away land.
Not that one can ever repay for that horror and the future benefit of a well paying job before the IED, or trauma of war. How much sacrafice does one expect these soldiers to make?
I am not happy about any of this and not one person who claims to be a grateful nation should be.
Some of us are thinking of sacrafice on Veterans Day. Some are thinking austerity at any price. I am disappointed.
I think Dina and CNBC picked a good name after reading this for the documentary.
Death and Dishonor.
