So, what's making waves in my fair city & state these days? A 3 - year nightmare involving an IMPD officer began a bit of (for lack of a better word) closure when Officer David Bisard was convicted of 9 counts involving him driving his squad car while drunk, hitting 3 motorcyclists, and killing one of them. His sentencing will be the week of Thanksgiving; while the victims feel justice was served, no one's celebrating.
Ever since Illinois, our neighbor to the west, decided to allow {insert hushed tone here} teh gayz to get married, I have vigilantly been on guard against any drifting raining fire & brimstone from the west & in defense of my opposite marriage. All clear so far - go figure! ;D Ripple effects may or may not be felt here; I'm not confident. The best I'm hoping for is the defeat of HJR - 6 that will put the potential of adding an anti - marriage equality amendment to our state constitution.
Lots of businesses interests, schools, etc. have been vocal about the chilling effect that such an amendment would have on the economic & talent pool in these parts. There is 1 very noticeable exception - Purdue University...president there now former Governator Not - My - Man Mitch Daniels. He's choosing to 'remain neutral.' AKA "I'm still holding out hope to be GOBP POTUS nominee someday - can't blow my chances for appearing to like {insert yet another hushed tone here} teh gayz getting married!" Well, too bad. He's getting a gross of these for Christmas!
On the education front, ever since Glenda Ritz defeated Tony "Crook" Bennett to be the Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction, our current Governator Mike "Defund Planned Parenthood!" Pence, the GOBP - dominated state legislature, and other interests have been trying to undercut her authority. She's trying damn hard to hold onto 'powers' that suddenly seem to be too much for her but weren't too much for the aforementioned crook who held the position before her. GO GLENDA, GO!
And finally, the Indiana Pacers are the only undefeated team in the NBA & have had their best start since the old ABA days. As everyone should know, basketball is 1 of only 2 seasons in my neck of the woods - that & construction season.
