Received this e-mail today from from decorated Admiral and former Congressman Joe Sestak (D. PA) who compares and contrasts his strong, pro-middle class record in Congress to Tea Party U.S. Senator Pat Toomey's (R. PA) extreme right-wing voting record:
President Lincoln told Congress in 1861 that the:
“substance of government…is to elevate the condition of men – to lift artificial weights from all shoulders – to clear the paths of laudable pursuit for all – to afford all an unfettered start, and a fair chance, in the race of life.”
But today, we are "a house divided". With one side shutting down government, and the other side botching the implementation of health care, how can people be expected to trust government’s stewardship?
This is why I am seeking the Senate: our nation yearns for leadership that is accountable -- to the people, not to party – regaining trust through concrete accomplishments that “afford all an unfettered start in the race of life.” And that is the difference between Senator Toomey and me:
The difference is clear: if you agree with restoring accountability in Washington, I ask your help in this last fundraising quarter of the year. If you have contributed, please consider matching your previous contribution -- it is that important. If you haven't done so, I ask you to contribute and forward this commitment of accountability to your friends to help us restore the legacy of Lincoln's governance.
