Received this e-mail today from Senator Mark Begich (D. AK) regarding the Supreme Court's ruling on
Citizens United:
We usually don’t get a very good look into the finances of Citizens United-fueled interest groups and super PACs. But last week, we got a little glimpse:
“The dark money giant Crossroads GPS, launched by Republican strategist Karl Rove, told the IRS it raised almost $180 million in 2012, including one donation of $22.5 million, another of $18 million and another of $10 million. Fifty donations were for $1 million or more. “ -- ProPublica, 11/18/2013
In the 2012 elections, Rove’s Crossroads spent more than $70 million. They’re gearing up to do the same in next year’s elections, too. And since our race in Alaska is considered a top priority -- with Outside interests already attacking me -- some of that money might just make its way to Alaska.
This is what Citizens United has done to our democracy. These groups think they can take all those millions and buy the power in elections -- power that rightfully belongs in the hands of Alaskans.
Congress needs to take steps to end the effects of Citizens United. And I need you fighting with me to get that done. Add your name to our petition to stop Citizens United:

Thank you for standing with me.
