Well, barely have we got our breath back after the wild ride that was 'The Day Of The Doctor', a 50th Anniversary Special to end ALL special episodes, one with plot twists, and embedded clues, gentle homage to many previous episodes and the complete shattering of the 'regeneration convention', when we are confronted with the end of the the Matt Smith era (we shall set aside for the moment the debate on whether he is the 11th Doctor or not).
Please note! I shall assume that no-one is about to start slinging doughnuts around at this point, as you would have to be confined in the deepest level of the Stormcage Containment Facility to NOT know what I'm talking about (try and get the cell next to Professor River Song, if you want to live dangerously).
The video teaser which ran at the end of the '50th' was all of 11 seconds long. We are given glimpses of the Silence (that utterly evil religious order), the Weeping Angels (those quantum-locked alien killers, as old as the universe itself, who give me the shivers), the Cybermen (who become more dangerous with every single upgrade) and the oldest embodiment of evil, the Doctor's first alien enemy and Time War foe - the Daleks. As well as this, we just have time for the Doctor to acknowledge that he is on Trenzalore.
This is where he'll find his tomb - again - and where he must face the First Question, the single question that the Silence are determined must NEVER be answered, or 'silence must fall'.
There are some incongruities in the images which have been released so far. Clara looks almost festive in her paper hat, and she is carrying a Christmas cracker (some symbolism, perhaps?), whilst the Silence are framed by Christmas trees trimmed with lights. As for the Doctor, he is carrying the severed head of a Cyberman; one that has been damaged and roughly repaired, no less!
Yes, there is much to look forward to, and, as always with a regeneration, much sadness (I shall always remember the line, 'I don't want to go!').
Let speculation abound.......
