What is the purpose of TV news media programs? Why are more and more people tuning out from television news programming? Why does the youth prefer their news from John Stewart rather than CNN?
Is it the false equivalencies? Is it the appearance of laziness in journalism? Is it really laziness or a concerted effort to misinform the public? I'm not sure but for once I'd like for MSM aka CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, and PBS to be put under the microscope of scrutiny in a critical and honest review. I'd like to see a program where a panel of everyday citizens are asked questions of why they don't trust "the news".
So, again I ask what is the purpose of journalism?
I once thought the purpose was to serve the public good by providing analysis of news and information based on the principles of truth, accuracy and factual knowledge.
However, that seems to have changed and not just around the edges. Chuck Todd earlier this year became a poster child for today's journalism when he espoused the following:
"But more importantly, it would be stuff that Republicans have successfully messaged against it," Todd told Rendell. "They don't repeat the other stuff because they haven't even heard the Democratic message. What I always love is people say, 'Well, it's you folks' fault in the media.' No, it's the President of the United States' fault for not selling it."
Too many journalist on these networks seem to feel their job is not to serve the public good by providing analysis of news and information based on the principles of truth, accuracy and factual knowledge but to provide an accurate accounting of the positions put forth by Democrats and Republicans thus the false equivalencies.
However, is this be design? Have journalist become apart of the elites they serve? No one ever asks these questions.
Inherently, it is my belief that many people have a gut feeling that "the media" is no longer for the service of the public good, I'm a believer that it is mostly Corporate Sponsored Propaganda and thus the lack of viewers.
It is my belief that if one of the networks ran a 2 hour special regarding American journalism it would be ratings gold provided they are critical, honest, and forthright.
