Received this e-mail today from Senator Kay Hagan (D. NC), who opposes the chained CPI, regarding Social Security and Medicare:
Out-of-touch Washington insiders have tried to dismantle Medicare and cut or privatize Social Security. Even though more than 1.5 million North Carolinians rely on Medicare or Social Security, there are those in Washington who will attack seniors’ economic and health care security to score a political point or two.
Now is the time to speak up for our seniors.
We speak for the elderly mothers and fathers across the country who count on Medicare to pay for doctors visits and prescription drugs. We speak for all those seniors and disabled Americans who have paid into Social Security and earned the retirement security that helps them pay the bills.
And we need to make our voices heard. Sign the petition and tell Congress to keep its commitment to preserving Medicare and Social Security.

We all have someone in our lives - an elderly family member, a co-worker, neighbor, or friend -- who relies on Medicare or Social Security.
If there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that if something is worth fighting for, you can never back down. To me, the life-saving health care Medicare provides is worth fighting for. The promise to our seniors that growing old does not mean growing poor and descending into poverty is worth fighting for.
Making sure Medicare and Social Security are preserved and strengthened is a top priority for me, and for millions of families in America. Add your voice to mine. Sign the petition to join me in the fight to secure Medicare and Social Security for all seniors.

Thanks for all your support to stand up and fight for our senior citizens.

P.S. PPP's latest numbers came out on this race and it's still a Toss Up:
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/...
After several months of declining poll numbers that saw Kay Hagan go from leading her potential GOP opponents by double digits to being effectively tied with most of them, her numbers have leveled out this month. 43% of voters approve of the job she's doing to 49% who disapprove, almost identical to 44/49 in November. Still it's clear the Obamacare rollout has taken its toll on her- in September she had this same 43% approval rating, but her disapproval has spiked 10 points from its 39% level then.
Hagan finds herself in toss up territory with all of her potential Republican opponents. She leads Thom Tillis 44/42, is tied with both Heather Grant and Mark Harris at 43, and trails both Greg Brannon and Bill Flynn 45/43. Those numbers are all pretty similar to what they were in November.
It may seem counter intuitive that Tillis, generally seen as the likely Republican candidate, is the only one who trails Hagan. That's a reflection of his being the only one of the GOP candidates who's particularly well known, and it not being a good thing for him. Only 12% of voters have a favorable opinion of him to 30% with a negative one, a residual effect of his association with this year's unpopular legislative session. That's causing him to poll slightly worse than the more generic Republican candidates.
One thing that could play to Hagan's advantage is the chaotic status of the Republican primary field in the state. 44% of GOP voters aren't sure who they want their candidate to be next year and right now Tillis is only polling at 13% to 12% for Harris, 11% for Brannon and Grant, and 8% for Flynn. That's the kind of tightness that could lead to a GOP runoff, as Republican Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest predicted earlier this week. A similar runoff on the Democratic side in 2010 did not help their chances of unseating Richard Burr. - PPP, 12/10/13
And look who's coming to North Carolina to fundraise for Thom Tillis (R. NC):
http://www.newsobserver.com/...
Senate leader Mitch McConnell is helping host a Tillis fundraiser this week in the nation’s capital, according to an invitation obtained by the Washington Examiner. McConnell’s PAC recently gave money to Tillis’ campaign, which also had Karl Rove host a series of fundraisers.
Other big GOP names on the invite: Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Mike Enzi of Wyoming. The breakfast fundraiser is Thursday at the home of Geoffrey Gray, a lobbyist who has represented a number of banking interests, including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the newspaper reported. The donation level is $500 to $1,000 and PACs are expected to give $2,500.
“McConnell's political action committee has donated to Tillis' campaign, but the appearance at the fundraiser of the Senate's top Republican is an important, visible stamp of approval for Tillis' candidacy,” the D.C. publication writes. - News Observer, 12/10/13
