Received this e-mail from Senator Brian Schatz's (D. HI) campaign regarding gun safety laws:
It may seem like science fiction, but there are plastic guns that aren’t made as toys for kids.
Dangerous people can now make real guns at home from plastic using 3-D printers; these guns are unregistered and undetectable in security machines, including x-rays and metal detectors.
We have key security measures in place to prevent people from bringing firearms onto airplanes, into government buildings, and into events like football games and concerts. But these security measures don’t have technology that can detect guns made from plastic.
That’s why I co-sponsored a bill to ban all undetectable firearms, including those made from plastic and by 3D printers. But obstructionists in the Senate blocked this legislation, and we’ve got to fight back.
We’ve got to keep the pressure on to keep our communities safe. Click here to join on as a citizen co-sponsor of the Undetectable Firearms Modernization Act.

This is one step that we can take today; but there’s so much more we can be doing to prevent gun violence.
I’m proud to say that I support the assault weapons ban, and am working to expand background checks to prevent guns from being issued to criminals and people with severe mental illnesses. These are just a few common-sense steps to make our communities safer for our family, friends, and neighbors.
By banning all undetectable firearms, we are making our communities safer for children and families in Hawaii and across the country.
Join me in sending a message to Congress that we need to act now to ban all undetectable firearms, and help keep our airports and other secure places safe for all of us.

Together, we will keep working to keep our communities safe from gun violence.
Mahalo,
Brian Schatz
U.S. Senator
