Friday News Dump, of course. Story just came out at nearly 6 PM Central Time on a Friday before the last shopping weekend before Christmas. The timing couldn't be better for hiding a story.
Must be nice to have friends in high places.
Kevin Kavanaugh, one of several Walker associates whose wrongdoing was uncovered and prosecuted during the last John Doe Probe, is getting out of prison early. He was sentenced to a 2 year prison sentence just over a year ago. Frankly, I felt the sentence too light considering what he would have gotten if he stole that money from a store or a bank. I guess stealing from veterans and their families is not as bad.
Kavanaugh was found to have stolen over $51,000 from a fund for the families of veterans while in a position then Milwaukee County Executive (now Wisconsin Governor) Scott Walker appointed him to which oversaw those funds. Late last year he was sentenced to 2 years in prison and has served about half of his term.
The state Department of Corrections said Friday that Kavanaugh completed certain requirements of an early-release program, which makes him eligible to convert the rest of his sentence to extended supervision.
Governor Walker appointed the head of every state agency.
I'll bet that the families of veterans he stole from are more upset about this than I am.
Again, must be nice to have friends in such high places.
