You ought to be out raising hell. This is the fighting age. Put on your fighting clothes.

From The New York Times: "Adjt. Gen. Bell Threatens Death for Opposition to Militia."
"TREASON" IN COLORADO.
CRIPPLE CREEK. Col., Dec. 6.-Adjt. Gen. Bell, who has arrived here, has issued a statement defining martial law as it will be enforced. He defines "military necessity." Insurrection, and treason. Of the latter, he says:
"Armed or unarmed resistance by citizens of the United States against the lawful movements of the militia is treason and the punishment is death."
James Gaughan, the Under Sheriff, whose action in releasing an imprisoned striker against whom an information charging assault was to be filed, was the immediate cause of the sending of troops to this district. Gaughan has been removed from office by the military.

Trinidad, Colorado - Tikas and Uhlich covered in snow in jail cell as blizzard raged.
The jail cell in Trinidad where Louie Tikas, Bob Uhlich, and fifteen other striking miners are being held, is unheated. Also, there is a broken window through which the wind and snow filled the gloomy cell as the blizzard raged across Colorado a few days ago. We have learned that the men were forced to sleep, as best the could, on bunks covered with 3 inches of snow, and no blankets.
We have also learned that Brothers Tikas and Uhlich were interrogated by Major Boughton, chief legal officer of the militia. The men were grilled for several hours. Uhlich refused to give any testimony whatsoever, stating that only the civil authorities had the right to question him. Brother Uhlich has been designated a "dangerous and undesirable alien." Tikas was promised his freedom if he would persuade the Greeks at Ludlow to turn themselves into scabs. We may assume that he refused this offer, for he has not yet been released.
Brother Adolph Germer was arrested returning from Denver recently. We are unsure at this time where he is being held.

More on the cartoonist, Albert Wilbur Steele:
In her book on the Cripple Creek Strike, Emma F Langdon has this to say about Steel:
Mr. Steele, the greatest cartoonist of the West, on the Denver Post, is entitled to my best wishes for the courtesy extended in permitting me to reproduce the cartoons drawn by him, which you find in these pages.
The problem with drawing cartoons of General Bell was that the reality was as ridiculous as any cartoon.
While Steele was regarded has a top-notch cartoonist, he does not appear to be much of a progressive as depicted in this book:

Search the book with "Steele" & "Denver Post" to view several cartoons.
In Emma Langdon's book, The Cripple Creek Strike, Steele's cartoons are on pages 117, 131, 140, 147, and 159.
