It is Easter Sunday, I'm sitting in the local hotel room trying to gather support to rebuild The Veterans Green Bus. I need to raise $7,500 in the next week to get her fixed and on the road.
It is a nice room with cable and Internet so, I'm not bored and can get some work done. My first goal is to get the musical instruments that were donate moved to Rockaway NY. My second is researching what it will take to rebuild after the electrical fire.
Roanoke, VA has been very helpful the article in the Roanoke Times generated the donation of a hotel room for a week and the funds to pay for the towing charges and storage fees ($1,500).
Now it is Easter Sunday and the bus needs a miracle. The starter motor and the wiring harness connected to it are toast! We need to jack the bus up about a foot to remove it. The bus weighs 26,000lbs. We think we can raise it with 4 two ton bottle jacks.
Once we have the starter motor rebuilt or replaced we will rewire the batteries and test.
The time it will take will depend on if we can rebuilt the starter or need to replace it.
The mechanic recommended replacing the transmission fluids. He also found a worn out U Joint that needs replacing. He suggested doing a full maintenance and safety check of all the systems before we hit the road again.
He gave me a rough estimate of the costs to repair the fire damage parts and labor = $2,500
He thinks we should also replace the rear tires for wear and dry rot and pack all the bearings in the drive line. = $5000
So that is my goal raise $7,500. to put the bus and my crew back on the road.
