Before Dec. 14, 2012, 27-year-old Erica Lafferty had a loving mother in Dawn Hochsprung who was also an exceptional educator. It should come as no surprise to anyone that she's now trying to find a way to honor the memory of the Sandy Hook principal she simply knows as "Mommy" after a crazed gunman took her life and 25 others just weeks before Christmas.

For Lafferty, her mother's untimely death would be in vain if the House doesn't act to keep firearms from falling into the wrong hands. It would be easy for her if she had billions or even connections to the most powerful lobbyist to carry out her cause, but she doesn't. So there's social media, namely, Twitter.
Lafferty called out the 14 GOP senators who vowed to filibuster any gun control legislation that comes across their desks. My state's senator, the junior Ted Cruz, was the only one to as much give her a phone call and explain his position.
I don't know Ms. Lafferty let alone have an understanding of her political views, but I believe it's not her intention to infringe on the rights of many law-abiding gun owners. She wants to make sure that another Sandy Hook doesn't take place. Having to live with the unspeakable and unbearable pain of not being able to hug her mom at her own wedding, Lafferty asserts efficient gun control will ensure those who still have mothers don't lose theirs or other loved ones to senseless violence.
Most of the pro-NRA set should count their lucky stars they don't have to experience the same heartache she's going through. And shame on them if they were to think she's clamoring for the president to send uniformed squads to seize their precious guns and ammo.
Erica, please know that I stand with you and hope you do your mother and the lost souls of Sandy Hook justice. May your mother's spirit guide you in every thing you do. My condolences.
