My previously thought to be impeccable source has failed me! Oh, the inhumanity. It has surely not been Spring in Chicago, exactly, and it now appears that part of our Saturday (April 20th) meet-up will have to be dedicated to gently cajoling, beseeching and outright begging Mother Nature to finally bestow upon us her fairest of all seasons. Plus eradication of invasive species and a general outdoors Spring clean-up. And pizza!
Park District of Highland Park: Heller Nature Center
Celebrate Earth Day with our fifth annual day of conservation and environmental stewardship. Help Heller staff by volunteering to improve our natural areas for wildlife and visitors alike. Please dress for the weather and for getting dirty!
Sat Apr 20 9am-Noon FREE
They won't kick us out of the park at noon, of course. That's just when the volunteering officially ends.
As to transportation, the Metra UP North Line leaves Ogilvie at 8:35a and arrives in Highland Park at 9:24a. Transportation from the station will be provided. There will also be at least a few people traveling by auto who would love to have your company!
Sadly, our RSVP rate hasn't been exactly stellar so this is a call to invite you, once again, to join us, do some good and have some fun. You don't have to be an "official" Chicago Kossack to attend. Just drop a comment here or let broths or me know by kosmail whether you can come and if you need transportation.
We're still hoping for a great turn-out. We'll be deciding on some future event dates, too. Upcoming in May will be an evening gathering at Pegasus in Greek Town and a Sunday baseball ball-game outing in Kane County later in the summer. The more voices involved in event planning the better.
Let's hear it for Chicago and for Building Communities!
