This isn't a glass half-full, or glass half-empty exercise. Put simply, Most Republicans, if not all at times, are behind the filibusters. The provide, even in cases where Democrats are involved, the solid base for the numbers of people required to prevent debate from being ended. Without their united efforts, much of what we sought to pass would have have passed.
It is supremely annoying when Democrats joined with Republicans on filibusters, and forced things rightward. It was likely what got us looking feckless after 2008, so Republicans could win 2010.
But what you ought to realize is, this was a deliberate policy decision on Mitch McConnell's part, and he has boasted about that fact, and his clear goals are to divide the Democratic Party, and suppress its goals, tearing us apart and halting our agenda with his obstruction.
The way I look at it, we can waste a lot of time in circular firing squad formations, or we can direct America's anger and frustration back at those creating the underlying causes of that anger and frustration. Then, when we have sixty votes, we can talk about whipping those sixty. Or, at least when we send the turtle back into his shell.
Me? I've seen this situation develop over time, and I've known who to blame for it. It's only logical. If we break the filibusters at the source, we succeed. If we can create a movement for filibuster reform, we succeed.
If we spend our time telling people how weak and stupid we are as a party, I don't think things go well for us. We need to give the credit for these filibusters where it's most certainly due.
