The sad decline of the Democratic party continues. The families of Newtown didn't get their votes, but the angry salesman gets a reprieve from flight delays.
The Democratic Party seems to now stand for exactly nothing if we can't take the simple object lessons provided by tragedy in Newtown and at least get a vote on passage of background checks for any weapon transfer. I can hear some objecting, didn't we just have those votes? Well, sadly, no, what was voted on was whether to "cut off debate" and proceed to a vote, because if we proceeded to a vote the matter would PASS (54 or 55 for).
So months after a real tragedy with the murder of 20 children and 6 of their caretakers the Senate can't even vote on largely symbolic measures to possibly prevent future such tragedies. We are today told that inconvenienced travelers is a tragedy of such proportion that no debate is needed and no vote need be recorded to pass a measure out of the Senate freeing the people from delayed travel.
I fully expect the President to expeditiously sign the bill and be done with THIS problem, but we'll let kids go hungry and kick them out of Head Start, because that isn't a tragedy.
