I'm really not sure why this is so hard for some to grasp.
In Mississippi, a high school is being accused of not only having "Christian" lectures during school hours but actually forcing the students to listen whether they wanted to or not.
A high school in central Mississippi allegedly forced students to watch a Christian video and listen to church officials preach about Jesus Christ.
The American Humanist Association’s legal center filed a lawsuit against Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood on Wednesday, accusing the school of violating the student’s First Amendment rights.
and
The assemblies concluded with a prayer and teachers blocked the exits to prevent students from leaving, the lawsuit claimed. A disillusioned student videotaped one of the assemblies.
I'm not sure why this is so difficult. Prayer is allowed in school---in before and after school clubs headed by students. Oh, and kids can pray to themselves all they darn well want, to whatever entity they so choose be it Jesus, Satan, Thoth, Vishnu, whatever. They're not mandatory. I suppose that's the problem for some of these people.
Look fundies, I get it, I really do. Not everyone believes the way you do and that just eats you all up inside, bless your hearts. Not to mention, most of us look upon you rather pejoratively, and perhaps that isn't always fair. But this isn't going to help. It's just going to continue what we think of you, we the majority (and that majority is comprised of Christians liberal moderate and even conservative, Jews, Hindus, Wiccans, atheists, agnostics, assorted spirituals, and so on.) We're really, REALLY just about sick of your shit.
Here's the deal and this really isn't hard. You may believe whatever you want. You may even teach whatever you want in your churches so long as no one gets hurt. You may have your kids have before and/or after-school prayer meetings at school. You even can go door to door to spread the Word (yes, that's right, you have that right!). But you may not, may NOT, hold an audience captive to force your message on them. That includes teaching the Book of Genesis (and as an aside? the people who actually wrote the damn thing STILL EXIST and it's THEIR BOOK and THEY BY AND LARGE DO NOT CONSIDER IT A LITERAL TEXT. THAT SHOULD BE A MESSAGE TO YOU) as science, and it really includes forced prayer meetings, and it really, really includes blocking the doors to keep any students who wanted to leave from leaving.
This is NOT hard. The Establishment Clause is NOT hard. Please learn it.
