Monday!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
Our schedule is now comprised of the following writers:
Monday: BadKitties
Tuesday: jan4insight
Wednesday: Caedy
Thursday: weck
Friday: FloridaSNMOM
Saturday: broths
Sunday: loggersbrat
We also welcome submissions from anyone who would like to jump in, whether as a fill-
in for someone else, or just because you feel like writing. Please mention it in the thread, or Kosmail FloridaSNMOM. Anyone scheduled who would like someone to fill in for you, please do the same.
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I don't hear very well. I have about a 30% loss (on good days), 40% (on bad days) in both ears. No one really knows why, although it apparently is neither congenital nor hereditary. My hearing loss may be connected to my horrendous allergies, and a history of childhood ear infections that sometimes required surgery, but we're not sure. A few years ago, my mother confessed that I had fallen off the changing table when I was six months old, and landed on my head. While this engendered much merriment from my brothers, I was not amused.
Over the years, this has presented some challenges, particularly when listening to the radio in the days before the titles scrolled across a digital screen. I present to you, first, "Catch Another Man Next Monday"
Followed by "I want to be your Space Camel"
I can't listen to "Only The Lonely" without hearing a cafeteria full of football players loudly singing, "Only the lonely get laid."
I can't explain to my children why that song makes me laugh, either.
An awkward story: one day in the first or second month of my freshman year in college, I was horribly startled by people suddenly jumping in front of me and shouting, "HEY, HOWARYA?" It happened about six or seven times. In each case, I said, "Fine, thanks, howareyou?" and hurried away from these clearly deranged people. In our dorm room that night, I said to my roommates, "I don't know what the hell has gotten into people. A bunch of them got in my face and SHOUTED at me today!" My roommates exchanged guilty glances, and one said, "Well, people thought that you were really stuck up and ignoring them..." and the other said, "So we told them that you couldn't hear them unless you could SEE them. We didn't tell them to shout."
Ah, Monday. A day of house cleaning and laundry. Hopefully, others have more interesting plans. Tell us about them!
