I mentioned yesterday that the Christian ministry Setting Captives Free recently made several of its courses available on a mobile app designed for both the iPhone and Android. Unfortunately, one of them is entitled Door of Hope, which claims to "help" people stop being gay in only 60 days. It appears to be based on the patently false premises that being molested as a kid or viewing pornography can turn somebody gay.
The folks at AllOut started a petition calling for Apple and Google to yank the app. Well, good news--late yesterday afternoon, Apple deleted the iPhone version from the App Store. Apparently nobody at Setting Captives Free knows what hit them. A link to the iPhone app is still available on their Website. But when you click it, you get a message that the app isn't available. And apparently none of the rank and file know either--there's no mention of it on their Facebook page.
However, as of this afternoon (Eastern time), the Android version is still available in the Google Play Store. Google has spiked ex-gay apps in the past on the grounds that they violate Google Play's ban on hate speech. They've done the right thing in the past--so keep the pressure on to do the right thing again.
