Earlier today, Bryan Fischer had as his guest E.W. Jackson, the wingnut black preacher who is the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor of Virginia. As you might expect, the interview was a veritable love-in. Jackson spent much of the interview wringing his hands at how the media is putting him through the wringer for a long list of extremist statements.
Watch the whole thing here.
Jackson claimed that an attack on him is an attack on "every Bible-believing Christian in America." He also claims that the attacks on him amount to an unconstitutional religious test, since he was speaking as a pastor.
Awww, what's the matter, E.W.? Did we hurt your feelings? This interview, in a nutshell, expresses the fundamental misunderstanding most fundies have about politics. If you decide to run for office, you should expect to have your views put under the microscope. Can't handle that? Don't throw your hat in the ring. Then again, you have to remember that much of the religious right's clientele lives in a bubble, so they aren't really used to having to defend their views.
People for the American Way got a clip of this, but the whole interview is worth a listen. It proves that the only difference between Jackson and most of his religious right brethren is skin color.
