Who knew
Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff has unveiled a series of reforms in an attempt to end days of nationwide protests against bad public transport and healthcare, corruption
government would create a national plan for public transportation
Congress to invest all oil revenue royalties in education
Oh wow...
"It's citizenship and not economic power that must be heard first," she said
She didn't say that, did she.
How novel.
Why are the people a trifle miffed?
Protesters say they want higher funding for education and health and a cut in salaries of public officials. They are also protesting against what they viewed as rampant corruption within the political class.
If I said Corporate Lobbying, does that ring some bells? They is people 2.
The leech like 501(c)(4) Political groups, oh... I should say non-profit social groups I am so fucking sorry.
If I said crumbling infrastructure you would think I'm talking about Brazil, right?
If I mentioned public schools being financially starved into oblivion to create a two tier education system, you would think I was talking about some furrin land, right?
If I was talking about reducing women to second class citizens you would say I was talking about somewhere in the Arabian Gulf, right?
If I was talking about financial shenanigans you would assume I was talking about some banana republic, right?
If I was talking about a government spying on its citizens, you would think I was talking about some tinpot dictatorship, right?
Protests work, even when there is some violence on the fringes, where they fail is when the propaganda is such that only the violence is important.
There will always be some who resort to violence that is the nature of civil disobedience, but I'm afraid there is only one way to be heard above the noise.
Get out and protest.
I have been on many here in good old commie Europe and I will be out on many more in the future.
Win or lose; at least be heard.
PS
To those protesting in Brazil, keep it up until the changes actually occur.
