I'll keep this short and sweet. It's from a comment I made in another diary.
As the war on women's right to control their own body wages on - Texas is now trying to make it illegal to get an abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected - I think it's time for a constitutional amendment about bodily autonomy for everyone.
And a national sex strike until it's passed.
Wanna help me draft it? Here's my first shot:
No one has the right to use, hurt or alter another person's body without informed, unimpaired, explicit consent by that person. Each person has absolute bodily autonomy. Children cannot consent to the use, harm or alteration of their body until they are at least 18*.
(I think some language needs to be added to make exceptions for young people who experience gender dysphoria.)
I'm sick of all this "it's a person! it has rights!" crap. I'm sick of people's religious beliefs interfering with my rights.
If I need a kidney and a man down the street is the only match on the planet for me, even though he would survive the surgery just fine and I would die without it, he has zero obligation to give me his kidney. I have a right to life, but I don't have a right to demand that my life be supported by someone else's body. Neither does an egg, a zygote or a fetus.
All other conversations on the topic are a red herring and should be shut down.
This amendment would also address some of the rape culture issues we face. Acculturation to and enforcement of explicit, unimpaired and informed consent would mean that people must reach consent before drinking or taking other substances which impair cognitive ability or judgement.
It also would end capital punishment at all levels. I would not make exceptions for people convicted of crimes. To me, violating someone's body is a crime and it is not justice to commit a crime against someone because they have committed a crime. That's simply a perpetuation of harm.
I'm so done with this relentless pursuit to dominate my body. I want a constitutional amendment.
And, since the culture of domination over comes from a patriarchal ethos, one in which sex is a part of establishing one's dominance, I think we need to have a sex strike until we codify the end of domination over one another. Hit them where it hurts.
