Remember this diary that I wrote about a group of Republican activists, who support a proposed open-pit iron ore mine in the Penokee Hills region of Wisconsin, creating a Facebook page and using it to make death threats toward four activists who are opposed to the proposed mine?
Now, they've linked to my diary and used it to make a blanket death threat toward anyone who opposes the proposed Penokee Hills mine and travels to the site of the proposed mine to protest it.
The only reason I found out about the thugs behind the "Wisconsinites for Safe Mining" (WfSM) Facebook page using my diary to make death threats toward those who oppose the proposed Penokee Hills mine was because this group, which is calling for Facebook to remove the WfSM page, posted a screenshot (which I've linked to in the above paragraph) of WfSM linking to my diary on their page.
Even though I'm a lifelong Illinoisan who has never been to Wisconsin, I oppose the proposed Penokee Hills mine because it violates Native American treaties, would pollute the Bad River and the rice beds along it, would threaten a nearby state park, would be operated by a company owned by the same guy who owns a company that ran afoul of the Illinois EPA, and would negatively impact the outdoor recreation industry in Northern Wisconsin, among other reasons.
While I usually do not mind people sharing my DailyKos diaries and other writings via social media, I do NOT tolerate people using my writings to make death threats toward people.
Also, if you use Facebook, I strongly encourage you to "like" the Shut Down "Wisconsinites for Safe Mining" Facebook page, because death threats have NO place in our country's political discourse, and Facebook needs to shut down a page that does nothing but make death threats towards people.
