Tonight my sister and I went shopping and while she was in a store to get something I stayed in my car double parked. While I was waiting for her a car stopped about 20 feet in front of me and out came 2 men. In front of a restaurant next to the store Angela was in were 2 young men, either Mexican or Spanish, they were either in their late teens or early twenties. Well the 2 men got out of their vehicle and went over to the 2 young and I noticed they had weapons on them. Of course I was then petrified but they pulled out their badges and they went up to these 2 young men and put them against the wall and started frisking them. I have to admit that I watched dumbfounded, wanting to get out of my car to state that it was illegal to stop and frisk but then I knew I could be subject to arrest. It took them 2 or 3 minutes to frisk these 2 young men and then they got in their unmarked car and drove away.
2 of my nephews have been stopped & frished (they're both white) one sitting in front of his father's store where he works talking to his friends, and the other walking while wearing a hoodie. This was about a year ago for the one sitting with his friends in front of his father's business and in the early spring for the one walking in the street, when the ruling was in effect. Each time my brother-in-law was furious, especially about his son who was working and sitting in front of his store with his friends.
I don't know if I was wrong not to get out of my car and say something or if it was just best that I let the incident go. I would have said something to the 2 young men but they quickly went up the train station and I had no time to react since I didn't want to say anything with the police still there. What would you have done in this case? I know Bloomberg is fighting the Judge's decision and now he even wants to fingerprint people who live in public housing to make sure they're actually residents! I can't wait for this man to be out of office.
