Ever get a call from out of the blue with a generic caller ID from someone in a call center, insisting that he or she is calling from your bank, but before they can proceed they need you to prove that you're you?
Didn't they just call you on your own phone?
In order to ensure that they're them, shouldn't they have to answer some questions first, as they initiated the call?
I do all my banking electronically, and check for messages when I connect. I specifically don't like calls out of the blue - a general rule of thumb: if I'm not expecting it, then it's a waste of my time or someone needs help immediately.
Sure, there are exceptions.
My bank isn't one of them.
...there's a really good reason I list my profession as "professional irritant."
Namaste.
