This is going to be a short rant. My facebook feed is full of people decrying the horrors of Miley Cyrus. Parental bloggers offering there thoughts and opinions on what is wrong with this girl, this is what happens, etc.
The Onion pretty much nails this:

But boy oh boy did it get us some web traffic. Which is why I, Meredith Artley, managing editor of CNN.com, put the story in our top spot. Those of us watching on Google Analytics saw the number of homepage visits skyrocket the second we put up that salacious image of Miley Cyrus dancing half nude on the VMA stage. But here’s where it gets great: We don’t just do a top story on the VMA performance and call it a day. No, no. We also throw in a slideshow called “Evolution of Miley,” which, for those of you who don’t know, is just a way for you to mindlessly click through 13 more photos of Miley Cyrus. And if we get 500,000 of you to do that, well, 500,000 multiplied by 13 means we can get 6.5 million page views on that slideshow alone. Throw in another slideshow titled “6 ‘don’t miss’ VMA moments,” and it’s starting to look like a pretty goddamned good Monday, numbers-wise. Also, there are two videos—one of the event and then some bullshit two-minute clip featuring our “entertainment experts” talking about the performance.
Frankly, I think Cyrus music is.. well, not very good. I think she has had some numbers that are OK, but it's not like she's revolutionary. That said, the news media has spent all day on this story.
FoxNews asked if it hurt the Disney brand:

They did another story going point by point through it:

In fact, today alone, FoxNews has used tens of minutes and at least 18 stories I could find on their website devoted to Miley Cyrus.
Really? Really?
Is this the most pressing news story in the world? And if so, why is it? I mean, Robin Thicke, who performs with her has a song with lyrics like "bust her ass open." and yet, I don't see him getting called to the carpet today.
But Miley Cyrus sticks her tongue out and gyrate and the entire world loses their shit.
Whether her act was good or not, last I checked she hasn't been indicted of any crimes, she isn't in rehab, and everything she did was legal. So, a song about girls who enjoy partying gets the entire nation in a tizzy to the point where FoxNews spent almost 20 minutes in a debate today about the impact on kids, while stories like, I don't know, Syria using chemical weapons, banks stealing your money, NSA or other things.. well, those aren't quite as important.
People please. She's a young girl with a shitload of money who seems to enjoy partying. I assume this means the world will end because, you know, girls shouldn't like that stuff or something.
Holy cow. Can we get back to real news now, please?
