Here we are after another mass shooting with the MSM trying to analyze how did we get here again? How did the shooter get inside the Navy Yard? Did he have mental problems? Did he purchase his gun legally? And so on and so forth.
Of course we're getting the same talking points from Republicans, "It's not guns that kill people, it's people that kill people. 2nd Amendment 2nd Amendment!!"
Most Democrats have been mum on the issue or at least not tackling it head on. I guess that is to be expected given the recall losses in Colorado last week.
My problem with all of this is that there seems to be this "thing" in the air where people are resigning themselves to believe that this is just the "new normal". m>Really??
My frustration is no longer with Republicans, Democrats, or even the MSM. They are going to do what they do best. Protect the interests of the folks who contribute to their campaigns and give them ad revenue. My frustration lies squarely with the American people. We've allowed helplessness and complacency to win the day. We haven't put any real pressure on our elected officials to do something about gun safety. All we (the majority of the voting American public) want to do is vote. After that we leave it up to the winner to do what they do. There is no real push back from the public.
Is there anything that we will fight for anymore? Republicans have been fighting Roe v Wade for over 40 years. Guess what? Their starting to win a lot of those battles. It seems like if we lose a battle or two we become so demoralized that we just give up.
After all those children from Sandy Hook were killed my heart and my spirit was broken. It's ok for all of us to have our "moment" but we can't stay down.
Today should not be a day of rest and sadness. We owe it to everyone who has been killed by senseless gun violence to get active (if you're not), get organized, and recruit friends/family/neighbors in our fight. This has got to become about changing enough seats in 2014 to get real gun reform. We've got to make it so difficult to continue with the status-quo that we get the ball moving in the right direction with new good gun policies.
So, if you haven't gotten involved please do so. You never know when the next mass shooting might be at your local mall, school, or movie theater.
