Why did there have to be a runoff? Burton LeFlore's already running in the general election for December 17th!
Mr. Byrne, don't forget I'm endorsed by Judge Roy Moore so you better watch out!
This may not be earth-shattering news but the Democratic Primary is over in the Special Election Race in Alabama's 1st Congressional District to replace former Rep. Jo Bonner.
Democratic candidate Burton LeFlore has beaten fellow candidate Lula Albert-Kaigler 71% to 29%

MOBILE, Alabama -- Real estate agent Burton LeFlore has won the Democratic Party’s nomination in the special election for Alabama's 1st Congressional District, according to the Associated Press.
LeFlore won the Democratic primary over Lula Albert-Kaigler with more than 70 percent of the vote.
"I'm just deeply humbled," LeFlore said Tuesday night. "It's been a long time just getting to this point. ... We've still got a long way to go and a lot of work to do."
"I'm so excited that the voters have given me a chance to move to the next level," he said.
LeFlore has pointed this out on what he wants to focus on for the race from here on:

Burton LeFlore said education and job creation were two of the key issues he plans to focus on during his campaign for Congress. "I'd like to bring in more industry, and put people back to work," he said.
It's also important to put policies in place to preserve the environment, particularly its waterways, he said. "We've got to make sure we don't denigrate our natural resources."
As a result of Burton LeFlore's win, there of course won't be a runoff so LeFlore is thereby the Democratic nominee in the AL-01 Special Election race. He will be running in general election mode where the election will be held on December 17th. Given the length of time and that this is also a special election, LeFlore should have time to build his base of support and make his case for why he should be elected.
Meanwhile, a runoff will be happening on the GOP side as Republican candidate Bradley Byrne, while receiving 35%, will be facing off against fellow Republican candidate Dean Young for the November 5 runoff election, which will definitely be easier for Republican voters since six other candidates ran prior to yesterday's election.

Republicans Bradley Byrne and Dean Young will meet for a runoff Nov. 5 in the race to replace U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner. Byrne was the leading vote getter in the 1st Congressional District, with 35 percent of the district’s vote, and Young was second, with 23 percent.
Burton LeFlore won the Democratic nomination, but a GOP candidate is favored to win the heavily Republican district.
Byrne also won the most votes in Escambia County, finishing with 959 votes, or 45.19 percent of the vote in the county. Young finished second in the county, with 529 votes, or 24.93 percent of the vote.
Therefore, for LeFlore, he really has nothing to lose at this point given there are low expectations for him to win the AL-01 Special Congressional Election on December 17th. Given the state of the GOP and that Byrne and Young are pretty much manufactured Republican-cloned candidates with no real positive, meaningful platform to run on, it really won't matter who LeFlore runs against after the runoff although he might have a bit of advantage as he's in general election mode and Byrne and Young are still in Republican Primary mode, given they're still dealing with the runoff.
However, it should be noted that Dean Young is endorsed by Judge Roy Moore, whom you know back in 2003 was adamant on refusing to remove a Ted Commandments monument from the Alabama Judicial Building which houses the Alabama Supreme Court.
With Lula Albert-Kaiger out of the race (still a mystery to me how she never had a campaign website or donation page), we might as well start giving Burton LeFlore support, whether we truly believe he'll win the AL-01 Special Election this December or not.
Yes, AL-01 is in a red district. We know that. But, why not build the base?
