I realize, your email box is stacked up with requests for money. Most of them are for national groups (d-trips is all in my mailbox) but tonight marks the end of a filing deadline for many campaigns looking to make an early showing for 2014. So, let me give you just a brief heads up on why these donations can make a difference and who is running.
Margie Wakefield is running for KS-02, the district where Republican Lynn Jenkins hails from. Despite the feeling that Kansas is "always out of reach" this is a district that has been won by democrats off and on through the years, thanks to the fact that Lawrence etc. is right in the heart of it. Nancy Boyda had carried this district, and the demographics this time around are much better for Wakefield then they ever were for Boyda.
Jenkins will be well funded, but a good opening showing on contributions doesn't hurt. Margie Wakefield is a smart, articulate attorney from Lawrence who looks to not only represent her district in the way it deserves, she is working to a wide spread campaign that can put this seat back in Democratic hands.
So, yes, I'm telling you: if you have it chip in $5,$10, whatever. Donations to Margie can make a big difference going into the 2014 cycle, especially right now.

I've written repeatedly about Paul Davis, who is running for Governor in Kansas. Paul Davis is a feisty, young advocate that is everything you could ask for in an up and coming candidate. Paul Davis is a real chance to stop the Brownback-istan nature of our state. If you want change in Kansas, part of it comes with giving someone like Davis a real shot in 2014.
Davis campaign has really risen up in the level of on the ground support - this weekend, Davis doubled the amount of expected volunteers and opened his offices in multiple areas of the state. This is a candidate who can make some noise and force Brownback to honestly debate the issues. That isn't just good for Democrats in Kansas, it's good for Democrats nationwide. All it takes is for the right candidates to challenge the wrong candidates.. and that is how you end up with the looney, on the record statements that change nationwide campaigns (see: Republican Todd Akin). How do you get those things? You run the races and you put campaigns to the test.

So, why are you getting hit up today so much? Because today is the end of September. The end of an on-hand reporting cycle. Now is the time where your funds matter most, because early strength in a race attracts real support and solidifies on the ground support.
I know things may be tight.. but if you've got $5 or $10, let me just say: I encourage you to give if you can.
