I've just about
had my fill of this
Rush to the Next War
talk, and come to the
sad inescapable conclusion
as to why "We" (the good
ol' US of A) are considered
Schoolyard Bullies by much
of the world. Largely
seen, especially in the Arab
world as the kind of Bully who
only throw rocks at weaker
folks who can't throw back.
For arguments sake let's just say Russia or China had done the Exact Same Thing we Believe Assad has done in Syria. We would rightly march to the UN shaking our fist, condemning the illegal action in the strongest of terms. We'd threaten economic sanctions. Perhaps we'd close consulates, an embassy or even boycott an Olympics…
but there's Not One Chance in Hell we'd have Congressional debates on whether to start lobbing cruise missiles into Beijing or Moscow.
Why Not, you ask? It's because our outrage is tempered by our adversary. It's because that kind of action, that Act of War, against those countries would start an actual shooting war where the risk of retaliatory cruise missiles landing in New York and DC would be Real & Immediate.
We know
Syria can't
punch back,
which encourages
our saber rattling
outrage & brings
out the Bully in us.
If the debate was, whether or not to take
out their chemical weapons capability, coupled
with straight talk realization to the effect of,
"But you know, we're mos' prob'ly gonna
to have give up large portions
of New York & DC (to start)
along, of course with the
associated inhabitants.
We just need to know if you
feel that strongly, 'cause
that's the cost."
Result-
NO DEBATE & CERTAINLY NO
MILITARY ACTION...
Just,
Of Course
Our Adversary
Tempered
Righteous
Indignation.
