Sarah Palin has declared Ted Nugent is her new political pole star, endorsing a Texas gubernatorial candidate by saying:
“If he is good enough for Ted Nugent, he is good enough for me!”
This is the woman who got the vice-presidential nomination of the Republican party. This is a woman who claims to represent "family values" and "real America" in the face of un-American threats to "our way of life." This is also a woman who has daughters of her own.
Let's forget the fact Ted Nugent has threatened Obama AND Hillary Clinton. We know that sort of thing would resonate with the people who attend Palin's political rallies.
We know Ted Nugent is the guy who the GOP AND the NRA embrace.
But this is also the guy who wrote "Jailbait"(YouTube video) AND ""I am a Predator."(YouTube video) If he was just a washed up rocker, this wouldn't be a story. But he is a major draw at GOP and NRA fundraisers. He is also the co-chair of a state-wide GOP campaign for Agriculture Commissioner. So he is not exactly irrelevant.
Some might argue the NRA board is more extremist than its members. Some might argue that Ted Cruz is more extreme than the people he represents. Some might argue that Republicans in Texas are more extreme than Republicans as a group. But now that he has Granny Palin's seal of approval, it is hard to argue his supporters don't represent mainstream Republicans.
Here are the lyrics to "Jailbait"
I’ve got no inhibitions
So keep your keys out of your ignition
I steal a car like I got the curse
I can’t resist the old lady's purse
Jailbait you look so good to me
Jailbait won’t you set me free
Jailbait you look fine fine fine
I know I’ve got to have you in a matter of time
Well I don’t care if you’re just thirteen
You look too good to be true
I just know that you’re probably clean
There’s one lil' thing I got do to you
Jailbait you look so good to me
Jailbait won’t you set me free
Jailbait you look fine fine fine
I know I’ve got to have you in a matter of time
So tell your mama that I’m back in town
She likes us boys when it’s time to get down
She’s got this craving for the underage
I just might be your mama's brand new rage
Jailbait you look so good to me
Jailbait won’t you set me free
Jailbait you look fine fine fine
I know I got to have you in a matter of time
Honey you you you look so nice
She’s young she’s tender
Won’t you please surrender
She's so fine she’s mine
All the time, all mine mine
It’s all right baby
It’s quite all right I asked your mama
Wait a minute officer
Don’t put those handcuffs on me
Put them on her and I’ll share her with you
Jailbait, jailbait
Jailbait, jailbait
Yep, that's right, he is not just singing about having sex with an underage girl, he is also singing about restraining her in handcuffs so she can be sexually assaulted by multiple attackers. In other words, he just graduated from statutory rape to gang rape.
That's a nice segue into the next cut on the album, "I am a Predator"
Surprisingly, those lyrics aren't available online. At least, I can't find them.
So here they are:
I am a predator.
I am a predator.
That's one thing for sure.
I am a predator.
You better lock your door.
I am a predator.
I am a predator.
I am a predator.
That's one thing for sure.
I am a predator.
You better lock your door.
I am a predator.
If you start going through his other work, you realize this is a recurring theme. From
"Sweet Sally," (YouTube video), another song about young girls
The young girls always turning me on
Some of them more than most
They know just what I like
And I get it from coast to coast
So young girls won't you gather round
You know what's coming down
Take a lesson from a friend of mine
Sweet sweet Sally likes it double time
Sweet sweet Sally she's a friend of mine
Get on babe
to an
entire album titled, "Little Miss Dangerous" the sexual predation is pretty clear. So is the violence. You see it clearly expressed in songs like
"Stranglehold"
You ran the night that you left me
You put me in my place
I got you in a stranglehold, baby
That night I crushed your face
This ain't Jimi Hendrix singing "Hey Joe" or Bob Marley singing "I Shot The Sheriff." This is out and out misogyny and predatory violence against women. When you see so many examples of this in his work, it's hard to claim this spokesman for both the GOP and NRA does not have an obsession with underage girls, sexual assault, and rape. It's even harder to claim he is just a washed up rocker who no one listens to now that he has been embraced by several high profile Republicans. It seems there is no longer anything a person can do to earn the disdain of Republicans, so long as he embraces guns and hates Obama.
Say what you want about Palin's intelligence or political insight. One thing is clear, she knows where the money is and definitely knows her audience. This endorsement of Nugent is no accident. As FOX noted in their story about Abbott's continued embrace of Nugent:
The tack reflects a clear judgment about Republican voters' tastes.
