Received this e-mail today from Rep. Bruce Braley's (D. IA) U.S. Senate campaign:
Immigration reform is one of the most complicated and divisive issues facing our country. There are many members of Congress, on both sides of the aisle, working hard to find a balanced solution -- one that recognizes that America is a nation of immigrants who have made, and continue to make, valuable contributions to our society.
Unfortunately, Rep. Steve King isn’t one of them. Here’s what he said in a recent interview:
“As soon as they raise their hand and say, ‘I’m unlawfully present in the United States,’ we’re not going to take your oath into the military, but we’re going to take your deposition and we have a bus for you to Tijuana.”
King’s comment was directed at DREAMers -- children brought into our country illegally by their parents when they were too young to do anything about it.
For many of them, the United States is the only home they’ve ever known. They deserve the chance to work hard and earn their citizenship.
These type of derogatory comments have no place in the debate on immigration reform. That’s why I’m joining with fellow Democrat and Congressional candidate, Jim Mowrer, to denounce this harmful rhetoric. Click here to join me and Jim if you agree.
