I live just blocks outside the limits of the Philadelphia School District, my work brings me into the City, and I am very good friends with a couple who are both teachers in the Philadelphia school system, so this issue is very close to my heart even if my child is not a student in the District. Our schools have been destroyed by Republican policy making and cronyism, and so I was thrilled, beyond words can express, to read this today. I can't possibly do this article justice, Brian Sims is a much better wordsmith than I could ever hope to be. Please, go read the whole piece over at Huffington Post. PA Representative Brian Sims has been a passionate advocate for the people of Philadelphia, and once again, he's raising his voice against the failed Republican policies we've had to endure.
While Governor Corbett has cut over $3 billion in education funding during his reign, he has doled out $2.1 billion in business tax breaks--all while Pennsylvania has fallen to the bottom in job growth and projected job growth. If that's not the clearest example of misplaced priorities and failed leadership, I don't know what is.
Tom Corbett is, deservedly, the most hated Governor in the history of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, but nothing is more reprehensible and
evil than his devaluation of and contempt for our children. I am hoping and praying that
fellow Daily Kos diarist Tom Wolf will be our next Governor. And that he listens to Brian Sims about education.
