When I hear homophobic rants its evident that the fear and loathing stems from; "there but for the grace of god go I" and that in allowing others to be free I will myself become enslaved by my own hatred.
When I hear we are being punished by god for the sins of others, all I hear is that the only justification for belief stems from the fear of retribution for their own sins.
When I hear bemoaning about taxes and estate taxes from those that are little concerned by either, this seems to be driven by the terror of retribution by those richer than they.
When I hear about the evils of big government its seems to come from the suspicion of those that they might elect, rather than those they oppose.
When I hear "they hate us for our freedom", it's usually from those that have no concept of what has been done in "freedoms" name. When I hear it from the powerful, it's merely an abdication of responsibility.
When I hear that evolution and climate change somehow threatens their very souls, it stems from more of a lack of curiosity, than deliberation.
When I hear their leaders play with their fears, I begin to understand not only the long road ahead, but I also the long road we have traveled, those voices are starting to sound more and more absurd. In the short term they may be deafening; but in the long term they have no future.
So listen to the voices of the future, and when I listen to the next generations it gives me hope. The world turns slowly, listen to its heartbeat.
Just a thought for a Sunday morning
