Good Morning Kossacks and Welcome to Morning Open Thread (MOT)
We're known as the MOTley Crew and you can find us here every morning at 7:00 am Eastern (and perhaps sometimes earlier!). Feel free to volunteer to take a day - permanently or just once in awhile. With the Auto Publish feature you can set it and forget it. Sometimes the diarist du jour shows up much later: that's the beauty of Open Thread...it carries on without you! Volunteer in the comment threads.

FAITS DIVERS - a section often found in French Newspapers which can be translated as "Diverse Facts" or "Diverse Happenings". This is the section where you find the coverage of murders, crime, UFO spottings, coincidences and all manner of bizarre events.
Here are a few I have collected over the last week which you may have missed.
Carpentras : les gendarmes saisissent 1,3 kilos de truffes d’origine suspecte
which translates as " Police sieze 1.3 kg of truffles of doubtful origin" by which they mean probably stolen. This is the latest in a series of truffle thefts, and two 80 year olds have been arrested. For reference truffles have a value about the same as cocaine per ounce.
I has been a bad week for former Miss Venezuelas.
Miss Venezuela 2004 was sadly killed , along with her husband in a roadside robbery.
Miss Venezuela 1984 apparently had one too many and assualted a flight attendant, causing her plane to make an unscheduled stop where she was promptly arrested.
First Pastafarian sworn into office in Pomfret, New York
A council member in Pomfret, New York has worn a colander on his head as he was sworn into office.
Christopher Schaeffer opted for the unique head wear, which signals his allegiance to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, at the ceremony on Thursday afternoon.
Words or expressions I wish I had not learned this week.
Sperm Switcher
Atomic Wedgie
