Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we try to get together every Saturday morning around eleven, and then drift in and out throughout the day. We hope this group serves to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who these people are that we stand with, work with, and share with in the political process. We hope, through this community, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
If you would like to host a weekly open thread, please let us know.
Randall has got us another appearance on Jeff Messer's show on Asheville's 880 progressive talk radio channel. Looks like we'll be on at 5:00 on Tuesday. We'll once again be talking about Daily Kos, DKos Asheville, our upcoming meetup, and progressive issues and advocacy. I'm hoping our comments don't cause any problems with rush hour traffic. If you would like, please tune in and support local progressive radio; and call in during the show to add comments and correct misstatements. This show is an excellent avenue for spreading the word about Daily Kos to like minded folks who have yet to find us.
But the big news is that our fourth quarterly meetup is just seven days away!
Saturday, January 25, 1:00 pm, The Cantina, 10 Biltmore Plaza, Asheville.
If you haven't done so already, go here to read Randall's diary with all the details about the meet up. We have two great guest speakers, we have a nice meeting room, we have food, and of course the main attraction - we have a great group of Daily Kos denizens already rsvp-ing their intentions to be there no matter the weather.
Note that if you are on a tight budget due to the effects of chronic reaganomics, you do not need to order food, as we will have a buffet available for everyone to enjoy. Of course, for those of you who do want to order a meal in addition to the buffet, the menu is very enticing. And I should also mention once again that this restaurant is locally owned and supports local growers!
Please kosmail randallt if you plan to come or if you are a maybe; and you can check the lists of who's planning to attend each morning in the New Day diary. Randall plans to meet with the folks at the Cantina early this week to give them a good number on the expected size of our group; so if you intend to come but haven't yet notified Randall, please do so soon.

As a reminder, we now have a google group for DKos Asheville, setup for the purpose of making it easier for us to send messages to group members. We'll use it to send reminders of the Saturday open threads, meetups, voter registration events, etc. If you would like to be added to the google group, kosmail me an email address and I will send you an invite. Note, this is a private group and your email address will not be public. A couple people who asked to be added have not yet accepted the invites; so remember to check your email for the google invite.

And for those who can make the trip, there is a Moral Monday event scheduled for Raleigh on Saturday, February 8th. Asheville PARC is planning to have buses going to the event. More information can be found in the event announcement on the NAACPNC's facebook page.

If you know of any events going on in Western North Carolina that you think we might find of some interest, please post details in the comments. Has anyone started tomatoes yet; I've been meaning to get an earlier start this year.
Enjoy your day!
