With the latest news about Mayor Zimmer talking to the feds you just know that the vultures of hate and lies will soon take (right) wing and start circling her. Before they start their bogus narratives I wanted to get out some good background info on the Mayor.
As you may already know, Dawn Zimmer became the Mayor of Hoboken after the previous mayor was arrested in a FBI money laundering sting known as Operation Bid Rig. What you might not know is that Zimmer was approached by the FBI informant running the sting but she didn't bite.
Follow me below the squiggle of integrity for more.
According to this 2009 article at NJ.com:
Councilwomen Dawn Zimmer and Beth Mason both said today they were each approached by a consultant they now think was trying to facilitate a meeting with Dwek, the FBI informant posing as a wealthy developer who promised campaign cash in return for favored treatment. Zimmer's husband, Stan Grossbard, said someone in the Zimmer campaign was approached before the June 9 election, after she and Cammarano had already made it into the runoff.
"It was a week, a week and a half before the election," recalled Grossbard. "The campaign was getting expensive and we were running out of money."
"We were told there was a New York developer who was interested in developing in Hoboken and he's concerned because outside developers are not getting a fair shot in this town," Grossbard continued. "He said he was potentially interested in making a donation to Dawn's campaign."
"And I said maybe and talked to Dawn. She said, 'I don't want to take any developer money.' And I told her, 'Well, then you have to stop moaning about how much we're spending -- you have to stop telling me we're throwing away our kids college education.''" According to Stan, Zimmer said she'd "rather write the check herself" than take money from a developer.
Looks like Christie's people picked the absolute worst person to use development money as a threat against.
Here's an interesting factoid from the Dawn Zimmer wiki page:
Zimmer was sworn in as Mayor on November 6, 2009, giving up her City Council seat. In 2008, Hoboken City had come under State Supervision due to an 11.7 million dollar budget deficit. By the end of Mayor Zimmer's first term, Hoboken had a balanced budget, had cut spending by 12%, and the city's bond rating had gone from a BBB-, to AA+, S&P's second highest rating.
One more thing. I've already read a posting on another site where she's accused of making these accusations just to get re-elected.
Mayor Zimmer was re-elected as Mayor along with her entire ticket in November 2013
At least we can shoot that one down.
Mon Jan 20, 2014 at 9:11 AM PT: Well the right wing has it all figured out. This comment is from a NJ.com article posted today discussing the Mayor:
"soros and hillary money are behind this."
Well that explains it!
