This week, Senator Rand Paul made news for stating that the War on Women has been won - by the little ladies themselves. He says:
You know, I don't see so much that women are downtrodden; I see women rising up and doing great things. And, in fact, I worry about our young men sometimes because I think the women really are out-competing the men in our world.
About 8% of the politicians (Republican) in the House of Representatives are women, if
Wikipedia is to be believed. Run for the hills, Rand! We're taking over!
And yet Rand Paul can't even remember the name of the fourth-highest-ranking Republican woman in Congress, one who has been chosen to be one of the (FOUR!) Republicans responding to the State of the Union speech tonight (hint: it's Cathy McMorris Rodgers):
Some of the GOP speeches will have overlap, but there is very little coordination. Paul struggled to remember the name of McMorris Rodgers — “last name, it’s two names” — in a brief interview Monday, before adding, “I doubt that I’ll disagree with much that she has to say on anything really.”
So on the one hand, the wimmins are taking over the world, such that men might need to start worrying about their own prospects.
On the other hand, remembering the name of a (supposedly) important female Republican politician is more than Rand Paul's brain can handle.
That shows, I think, the value that the senator truly places on the role of women in American society, political or otherwise.
