A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

What is your Best TV moment?
What do you think was the best moment (or moments) on television and why?
I'm nearly halfway through my 50s now, so I've been watching television over a half century now. There has been an awful lot of programming on television in that time, some of it live, so there is a lot to choose from. Here are the top of my personal list of Best TV Moments...
Because of it's iconic and historic nature, I have to choose the Moon Landing of Apollo 11 as the top of my list. I was just a month shy of eight years old, and I can vividly remember the color of the paint on the walls of my mother's aunt's home (pale, seafoam green) and the walnut brown of the cabinet of the round-faced, 9 inch, black and white television screen which we all watched with bated breath as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin touched down at the Sea of Tranquility, not at their planned landing site (about 12 miles SW of the crater Sabine D) but nearly five miles west of it on an area strewn with boulders.
The original landing site was selected in part because it had been characterized as relatively flat and smooth by the automated Ranger 8 and Surveyor 5 landers along with the Lunar Orbiter mapping spacecraft and unlikely to present major landing or extra-vehicular activity (EVA) challenges. [cite NOTE: this link is to a .pdf file]
The Moon Landing was emblematic of the last
big thing which this generation accomplished, in addition to winning the 2nd World War, beating polio and creating the modern American Middle Class. These people were overachievers, weren't they?
My second place Best TV Moment is relatively recent, and was broadcast in the summer of 2012 on HBO. I can't count how many times I've watched this eight minutes of television now, but each time I do, I am still completely hypnotized by the lyric quality of character Will McAvoy's soliloquy here:
HBO has requested embedding of this video be disabled, you will have to view it on YouTube. If you haven't seen this show? It's well worth the trip to YouTube to watch it (and then bookmark it!). Go ahead, I'll wait here for you to get back :-) ...
I knew that Aaron Sorkin was the writer/producer of this show, and because of that, I went to Netflix after the first season of The Newsroom finished airing, and watched back to back episodes of all ten years of The West Wing, which I had previously never watched. It was time well spent.
My third and final entry on my List of Best TV Moments is pure politics. Why is it on my list? Because of how it made me feel on the evening of November 4, 2008. Up until the returns started to be reported at 8 pm pacific time, and I and the rest of the world learned that Sarah Palin would not be the next Vice President of The United States of America - I knew in my heart that he would be elected, but I just couldn't let myself believe that it was going to happen. Watching just the first few minutes of this video? It brings back to me the hope I personally found for the future of my nation, as I listened to President-elect Barack Obama say:
"Hello, Chicago. If there is anyone out there, who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our Founders is alive in our time. Who still questions the power of our Democracy? Tonight is your answer.
It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches. In numbers this nation has never seen. By people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the first time in their lives. Because they believed that this time must be different. That their voices could be that difference..."
Nearly six years and counting, and a lot of that
hope has worn off, but I swear to you,
listen to just the first few minutes of this video and try and remember why this election made us all dream
big for the first time in nearly a decade.
Because another election is nigh. Some of you live in States in which the decision will be made of whether or not the United States Senate will remain in the hands of our Party - and whether or not the Republicans will begin Impeachment proceedings next January.
If your US Senators are being elected this fall, I ask you to consider whether the nation can take an Impeachment Trial next year. If you don't think so, PLEASE, contact the local HeadQuarters of your Democratic Party US Senate candidate and volunteer some time in October to phone bank or door knock or do some freeway blogging (as I intend to do for my Democratic challenger, Bob Dingethal, to our 2-time US Rep (R) (WA-03) Jaime Hererra Buetler).
No, I did not forget the homework assignment.
Who did their homework?

by tmservo433 ♥ for Kansas & Missouri Kossacks
tmservo433 organized a registering-to-vote event for Ford County, Kansas in Dodge City to reach out to Latino voters there. He partnered with League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and the Ford County Democratic Party. 150 people attended to listen to John Thomas (KS House District 119 Candidate), Jean Schodorf (Secretary of State Candidate), Jim Sherow (US House, KS District 1 Candidate), Mark Low (Kansas House Candidate, District 115).
"LULAC volunteers sat at their table and handled registration after registration as people came to the event to listen to how they could change their state. We knew that not only were we helping to register new and first time voters, we were helping to bring a message into a community that has been ignored - and to help them take that message back to their friends and families."
This is a great example of reaching out to disenfranchised communities and helping them vote. Because If Democratic base voters turn out, we win. Can't be said enough. More regions need to do this.
Please visit tmservo433's diary for many MORE photos! Enjoy! You can still REC it. You can join Kansas & Missouri Kossacks by sending a Kosmail to tmservo433.
