Last week I got an email from the GOP asking for money. Their latest BOLD move to raise money? George HW Bush's socks:
"President George H.W. Bush is legendary for his bold leadership — and even bolder socks.
Now is your chance to follow in his footsteps, with your own George H.W. Bush Socks."
Of course they can't mention issues because they have failed to do ANYTHING about any issues and have, in fact, done all they can to hurt America's interests for their own political and personal gain. They can't talk about values because the Republican Party is so rife with corruption and greed. So all they have left in their intellectual and moral tool kit are George HW Bush's socks...the foot wear of an unpopular (even among Republicans), one term President. Well, at least it is better than when they were campaigning on "I Miss 'W'" mugs.
Of course the most interesting part about this push is that George HW Bush is the person who coined the term "Voodoo Economics" to describe the trickle down economic policies the Republicans love so much.
Let's beat the socks (HW's or anyone else's) off the GOP in November!

Bruce Braley, IA-Sen
A top race in one of the most hotly contested states this year. Let's aim for some real gains in Iowa, starting with this race. I had not expected this to be as close as it is, but it is a tossup. I think it leans Dem. Bruce Braley has been endorsed by Democracy for America. By contrast, his opponent is one of the more rabid teabaggers out there.

Staci Appel, IA-03
This might be our most important race to take from the Republicans. It is a seat that has been held by the Greedy Oil Party for some time, but it is now a toss up. Having roots in Iowa (my father is from there) I would love to see this seat get flipped to blue. Staci Appel is a good candidate who has been endorsed by Democracy for America. Iowa is also a key state in the race to keep the Senate, so helping in this Congressional race can help our ground game in keeping the Senate.

Jim Mowrer, IA-04
This is the longest shot on this list, but the Repub incumbent is so horrible, he may yet mess up his own re-election chances. This is perpetually a close race and though it usually falls to the Repubs, making this competitive will help with statewide Dem races. Morwrer is another Iowa candidate who has the support of Democracy for America.

Another important House race in Iowa. I believe Iowa is the best state for a "fight for every district" philosophy. This is a defensive race, one we should win. But a strong showing here helps with the statewide races.

A good Senator and an important seat to defend. This one is really down to the wire.

Secretaries of State protect our voting rights...or, if they are Republicans, take away our voting rights. Colorado, as a key swing state, is particularly critical. We have to protect our voting rights by electing honest Democrats across the country. Joe Neguse is one of the candidates we have to support this year so we can win Colorado in two years.

Another important state level position! Given how "creative" Republicans get with finances, we need a good Treasurer in Colorado. Let's try and sweep Colorado this year.

This is a key pick up opportunity in a key swing district in a key swing state. This race is an epicenter of American politics. This race is a dead heat and one of our best chances to flip a seat. Colorado also has a somewhat close race for Governor this year, so pushing hard in this Congressional seat helps statewide candidates as well. This seat was formerly held by Tom Tancredo and would be particularly sweet to flip.

Mark Begich, AK-Sen
One of this year's key tossup Senate races. The Greedy Oil Party is so desperate to win this one that they put money and effort into a fraudulent website trying to fool Begich supporters into donating to the Repubs. This is critical defense.
Senator Mark Begich is well worth supporting. He supports overturning Citizen's United, voted for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and defends Social Security and Medicare.
Jason Carter, GA-Gov
President Jimmy Carter's grandson and part of a deeply dedicated family.
Jonathan Barfield, NC-07
We are defending this seat against a strong Repub effort to flip it from blue to red. New Hanover County Commissioner Jonathan Barfield is running to keep this seat from being taken over by the Koch brothers.
Alison Lundergan Grimes, KY-Sen
The one big chance to pick up a Senate seat from the Repubs. Take the fight to their turf is my motto. Defeating Mitch McConnell would symbolically erase most of the gains they may make this year.
Carol Shea-Porter, NH-01
NH-1 is one of our most important seats to defend. This is a pure tossup race in a seat that leans a tad red. Carol Shea-Porter won this seat despite that red tint, and the Greedy Oil Party is eager to take it back.
Emily Cain, ME-02
An important close House race to fight for. This had been off my radar but is a tossup and Cain has a real chance of winning.
Show the Republicans that Socks the cat is better than Bush socks.
