Iraqi Army demonstrates their fighting position.
Ok. Sigh. I understand that the difference between the last ridiculous war in the Middle East and the latest one is boiled down to 'Obama!' I got that. But after hearing
these comments by the Secretary of State, I am even more confused and/or bewildered:
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said keeping Kobani out of ISIS’s hands was not the top priority for the coalition of nations bombarding the Sunni extremist group in Iraq and Syria.
“Kobani is one community, and it’s a tragedy what is happening there,” Kerry told reporters during a press conference in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. “We have said from Day 1 it is going to take a period of time to bring the coalition thoroughly to the table to rebuild some of the morale and capacity of the Iraqi army and to begin to focus where we ought to be focusing first, which is in Iraq.”
I thought the stated mission was to
degrade and destroy ISIS as the President said over a dozen times. Or 'bomb them back to the stone age' as some of our own newly discovered Kossack Dick Cheneys have called for. Now Kerry tells us that is merely a side issue, the real point is 'to rebuild the Iraqi Army. '
Is this guy fucking serious?
We have been building, rebuilding, renovating, gut jobbing, restoring, and architecturally enhancing the Iraqi Army for over a decade under two different presidents.Hundreds of Billions of dollars. Thousands of hours of training. Tons and tons of equipment. And you know the result of all that? A fuck force of a joke. Many of whom simply abandoned all the shit we gave them and left it for ISIS.
Meanwhile, we've been told that ISIS is such a threat to humanity that even Hitler himself would have bowed in humble respect. It must not be allowed to expand else the next thing you know theyll be in your refrigerator digging through the organic kale. Healthy preparation to kill us all. With Ebola. Yet when those very same people are close to overrunning a town and committing war (which these days is called 'massacre' unless of course its done with a missle instead of a knife) the United States says thats just one community and too bad. WTF are we intervening for if not for shit exactly like this? I thought this was humanitarian war not nation building war. (humanitarian war... nation building war... the Orwell burns).
In other news:
The leaders of Iraq's Anbar province have called for the US ground troops to stop the Islamic State extremist group's growing assault in the region.
IS militants, on Saturday, were on the verge of taking not just a key Syrian town along the Turkish border, but also an entire province on Baghdad's doorstep, CNN reports.
Falleh al-Issawi, the provincial council's deputy head says should all of Anbar fall, the Sunni extremists would rule from the perimeter of Iraq's capital to Raqqa in Syria.
Issawi said key provincial leaders have asked Iraq's central government for their immediate intervention and for the deployment of US ground forces there to fend off Anbar's collapse.
Anbar is alredy where Kobani might be headed. And thats in Iraq which we say matters more than some town in Syria. They arent calling for a 'rebuit' Iraqi Army. They want American troops. So, uuhhh. Yeah.
