"...And dang if that trout wasn't THIS big. No, really - as God is my witness!"
As if threatening
war on Mexico and
championing rapists' reproductive rights wasn't enough to establish his qualifications to fill the open House seat in North Carolina's 6th Congressional district, Baptist preacher Mark Walker (R) now provides us with an object lesson in the wisdom of the words of James 5:3 -
"Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days."
The tea party candidate, running against Democrat Laura Fjeld, has promised repeatedly during this past year of campaigning that he would accept contributions only from individuals, not from PACs or 'special interests.'
June 3, 2014:
“We’ve not aligned ourselves with a Washington special interest group,” said Walker. “We’ve taken every penny, every dime from the people just from the grassroots because it’s time to make a true change in Washington.”
Also
June 3, 2014:
“Do you want someone who is posturing, or do you want someone who works for the people?” Walker asked. He said his support came from the people, not special-interest groups.
July 6, 2014:
“We thought — as Pollyanna as it sounds — is it still possible to get to Washington without all that special interest money?” he said last week.
July 15, 2014:
Walker said he has sworn off contributions from lobbyists or PACs so that if he gets [elected] he won’t owe special interests. “It’s part of the corruption that is Washington D.C.,” he said. “On this quest, I began to wonder, is it still possible to get one of the people to Congress without being groomed by the political process that feeds the system?”
July 31, 2014:
Walker said he determined not to accept money from special interests, political action committees or lobbyists.
But alas, as every Baptist preacher knows, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
With the publication today of the Walker campaign's October quarterly report to the FEC, we learn that over the past three months Walker has received over $100,000 from a broad array of PACs, including Altria Group PAC ($1,000), American Crystal Sugar Co. PAC ($5,000), Associated Builders and Contractors PAC ($2,500), AT&T PAC ($2,000), Branch Bank & Trust PAC ($1,000), Coastal Federal Credit Union PAC ($2,500), CULAC PAC ($2,500), Duke Energy PAC ($1,000), Eye of the Tiger PAC ($3,000), First Citizens Bancshares PAC ($1,000), Foxx PAC ($5,000), General Electric PAC ($1,000), Honeywell PAC ($5,000), Lowes Companies PAC ($2,500), Majority Committee PAC ($10,000), Marlin PAC ($2,500), National Cattlemen's Beef Assoc. PAC ($2,000), National Pork Producers PAC ($2,000), National Restaurant Assoc. PAC ($2,500), National Stone, Sand & Gravel PAC ($1,000), Old Dominion Freight Line PAC ($3,000), Piedmont Stone Center PAC ($1,000), Reynolds American PAC ($5,000), Speak Up America PAC ($1,000), and Triumph Group PAC ($2,000).
Perhaps the good pastor is unfamiliar with the words of Proverbs 19:9, which says, "A false witness shall not be unpunished, and [he that] speaketh lies shall perish."
Please consider helping Walker's opponent, Laura Fjeld (D), do the Lord's work by punishing Walker at the ballot box next month. Donate!
10:12 AM PT: For those wondering how Walker's PAC receipts compare with his opponent's, Laura Fjeld, for the latest (3-month) reporting period:
Walker (R): Total receipts of $300,026 (37% from political committees (PACs, etc.)
Fjeld (D): Total receipts of $214,551 (just 8% from political committees)
Walker (who promised not to accept special interest money) accepted 7 times as much PAC cash as did Fjeld.
