Peoria, Illinois - Mother Jones Speaks to Labor Delegates on Her Way to Washington
Trouble is brewing in Colorado as the state militia has once again entered the strike zone fully armed. The policy committee of District 15 sent a message to President Wilson on Tuesday night, and Mother Jones has been dispatched to Washington along with U. M. W. A. official, James Lord. Their intention is to attempt a meeting with the President.

"To Incite Trouble, Not to Promote Peace," Says Policy Committee
Denver, Colo., Oct. 21.-A report that fourteen members of the national guard in "uniform and fully armed," entered the strike zone of the Colorado coal field today, was contained in a message sent to President Wilson last night by the policy committee of the United Mine Workers of America, District 15. The belief was expressed that the militia men "came to incite trouble and not to promote peace." The message concluded by saying that the situation is serious.

From Chicago's Day Book: Governor Ammons Explains:
COLORADO MILITIA NOT TO CROSS FEDERAL TROOPS
Washington, Oct. 23-In reply to questions from Sec'y of War Garrison concerning reported activity of the state militia in the Colorado mine strike zone, Gov. Ammons reported that state troops recently moved in Las Animas county as part of a shooting competition.
He also reported organization of the infantry companies in Las Animas and Huerfano counties, with men drilled in regular inspection, but declared there was no other significance, such as interference with federal troops, in these moves.
The policy committee of the Colorado miners wired protest to Pres. Wilson against entry of militia men into Colorado coal fields. "Mother" Jones and James Lord, national board members of the miners, left for Washington yesterday to press their complaint.

Ludlow Massacre - Woody Guthrie
I never will forget the look on the faces
Of the men and women that awful day,
When we stood around to preach their funerals,
And lay the corpses of the dead away.
