I’m still optimistic that Americans will come to their senses and realize that by voting Republican they are voting against themselves. But if that doesn’t happen, many of the losing Democratic candidates will have no one to blame but themselves.
For instance, when a reporter asked Sen Mark Prior (D-Arkansas) whether Obama was “doing enough to combat the Ebola crisis,” he hummed and stammered while trying to give an answer. Instead, he should have said:
There is no Ebola crisis in America! Now, can we talk about something other than another trumped up issue intended to scare the American voters?
Or during a Montana congressional debate, when Democratic candidate John Lewis said, “Too much of our land is tied up in litigation . . . . by fringe environmental groups.” Instead, he should have said:
Environmental groups in Montana win their cases 85% of the time. So let’s stop blaming the environmentalists, when we ought to blame the big extractive corporations who aren’t following the law!
In other words, Democrats need to stop going on defense and letting Fox News and the Republicans set the agenda. The way to win elections is to go on offense and refuse to feed the GOP disinformation machine. And by the way: having the courage to stand up for what is right also fires up the base, which is the key to winning midterm elections.
