I am channeling jbou this morning. The absurdity of the lack of concern for public health in Dallas Texas and the CDC is appalling. Apparently no one can come up with a uniform protocol to decontaminate the medical waste (vomit, diarrhea, sweat soaked sheets) that this man generated after being turned away the first time from the emergency room. The hospital is blaming their electronic medical records work flows, so of course this will all be the fault of the Affordable Care act in some way. And in other medical news from Texas, the abortion clinics will remain closed, since they aren't safe enough medical facilities for the women to have a relatively simple outpatient procedure without wide corridors and doctors with hospital admitting privileges. Maybe those shuttered medical facilities could become the new plague holding cells. They probably have autoclaves and cleaning facilities. The workers probably had a kitchen of sorts with a fridge and microwave. They have sheets and hospital beds. Why not evacuate the exposed and quarantined folks to the closed clinics (at a price, of course) with a bunch of frozen meals and Netflix.
For more quarantine alternatives, follow my chain of thought below the orange glyph.
What are the alternatives?
Setting up some leftover Katrina Trailers?
Nationalize an extended stay Marriott with their kitchenettes and launder all the sheets with bleach?
How long until you can purchase a quarantine prepper kit on the internet or the Home shopping network with three weeks of food and water, Lysol, latex gloves, a bunny suit and face masks? Throw in some biohazard bags and a gun and you will be good to go. Seems like a free enterprise solution.
Home schooling for the 10% of folks who are keeping children home because fear of Ebola exposure, but who are also afraid of vaccinating their children.
Maybe we should just seal the borders with Texas now and isolate them with Oklahoma and Louisiana serving as a buffer zone.
Red zone all the cities with many Liberian and Sierra Leone immigrants- Oh wait, that is Washington DC. and other major cities.
The barn doors are still open folks and the cows are out there. There are other dangerous diseases like measles and tuberculosis that require quarantines and disinfection. I hope these folks start talking to each other and the billion dollars or so cut from the CDC budget by the sequester are restored.
