Today in Olathe, KS Sam Brownback and his campaign gathered to announce a "Major Endorsement". This major endorsement came from Derek Schmidt, the Republican Attorney General who has officially announced he will support Sam Brownback this fall.
The endorsement, which wasn't really in question, led for a few moments of interesting political theater as the gathered reporters immediately transitioned to asking about gay marriage.
As heard LIVE this morning on Netroots Radio, the announcement that Kansas would use legal recourse to fight the ruling should shock no one.
The back and forth begins at the 14 minute mark. Brownback, who turns away the question and throws it to his attorney general, later points out that he believes that too many Kansans support this issue and that it will have to be litigated.
Brownback uses percentages as he walks away from the microphone to explain why he will continue to fight gay marriage, but when confronted with another statistic - that 72% of Kansans want medicaid expansion, he quickly exits.
There is a great segment at the end, as Finn Bullers, a man who was subject to real cuts from Brownback's Kancare (His story is here: http://www.pitch.com/...) Chases Sam Brownback away from the county courthouse on his wheelchair.. the governor wouldn't turn around and take the question, but you could see Finn chasing him all the way.
10:27 AM PT: Minor Update: I've received confirmation that Reno county has issued out paperwork for gay marriages this morning. Hurray for Reno!
