Democrat Charlie Crist takes a five-point lead in a three way race with incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Scott – a 43 to 38 percent margin -- with Adrian Wyllie taking 10 percent in new polling released today from the University of North Florida.
When measuring head-to-head, the poll also has Crist leading 47 to 42 percent. In both versions, Crist's lead falls just outside of the poll’s margin of error.
As for job approval, the incumbent governor remains at a net negative, as 41 percent of likely voters approve of the way Scott handles his job while more than half (54 percent) disapprove.
Forty-six percent of respondents say the state’s economy, jobs and unemployment are the three most important problems facing Florida today.
UNF pollsters also found Floridians are ready to pass Amendment 2, a constitutional measure seeking to legalize medical marijuana. Sixty-seven percent of likely voters say they would vote “yes” for Amendment 2 — the referendum needs 60 percent to pass.
These numbers are in contrast to the 44 percent of likely voters polled that would allow adults in Florida to possess small amounts of recreational marijuana.
The UNF poll was conducted from Sept. 29 through Oct. 8. by the Public Opinion Research Laboratory’s (PORL)., with a sample size of 471 likely voters, randomly selected throughout 10 media markets throughout Florida, and a margin of error of +/- 4.74 percent.
